Working At Lumino

What's Great About Working at Lumino?

At Lumino we take pride in delivering a superior patient experience to everyone who visits our practices. Our people are passionate about dentistry and the important part it plays in the lives of New Zealanders.

When a patient steps into one of our practices, we want to ensure they receive fantastic service, so we make sure we employ people who are excited about joining us on this journey.

Along the way we ensure we give clinicians great training and development opportunities and the latest equipment and technology to grow professionally. You’ll really enjoy taking part in our clinical conference where you will have the opportunity to learn and socialise with other practitioners. Our practices are supportive family-friendly environments with potential for flexible working hours to suit your lifestyle.

We make a point of growing and developing our support teams, providing opportunities for you to advance your career within the Lumino group.

Finally, because we recognise that it is our people who help us succeed in delivering that superior patient experience, we want to reward our teams for this success. Everyone at Lumino benefits from our unique reward programme, Lumino Advantage, which is a mix of bonus, long-service and training benefits.

If you enjoy the challenge of working with patients so they walk out the door loving their smile, then you’ll enjoy working at Lumino.

Our Team Members

Practice Managers

The Lumino practice manager plays a key part in the running of the dental practice. The practice manager works in constant and close partnership with the lead dentist to improve practice performance by co-ordinating and managing all functional aspects of the practice, including day-to-day practice operations, people management, financial performance and driving and leading practice culture.

There are no specific entry requirements for practice managers, although previous office and management experience gained within a service environment is a definite advantage.

Dental Assistants

Lumino dental assistants help the dentists with patient care. You will be expected, along with other important tasks, to greet and prepare patients for treatment, keep the surgery clean and tidy and pass instruments and materials to the dentist as required.

Our dental assistants are extremely valued members of the Lumino The Dentists team. They benefit from working alongside some of the country’s most esteemed dental practitioners as well as from continued training and professional development.

There are no specific entry requirements to become a dental assistant as they are usually trained by dentists on the job. However, the New Zealand Dental Association runs courses for dental assistants and a Certificate of Dental Surgery Assisting is issued on completion. AUT also offers a certificate course for dental assistants.

Dental Receptionists

The Lumino dental receptionist is a key member of the dental practice team. They meet and greet patients, make appointments, maintain accounts and patient records and record patients’ information.

There are no specific entry requirements for dental receptionists, although clerical or medical experience or experience working with people can prove useful.

Clinical Dental Technicians

Lumino The Dentists clinical dental technicians are qualified dental technicians who have received additional training in clinical and interpersonal skills. Their role involves designing, creating, constructing and modifying removable dental appliances for patients, ensuring optimal fit, maximum comfort and the general well-being of their patients.

To become a dental technician, you need to have a Bachelor of Dental Technology. To progress on to becoming a clinical dental technician (a dental technician that is qualified to work with the public) you must work as a dental technician for two years before completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Dental Technology.

Dentists

As the countries largest dental healthcare organisation, Lumino The Dentists is able to relieve dentists of the responsibilities and stress of business management – creating practice environments that enhance the quality of life of dentists and staff. This ultimately enables us all to provide the highest level of service and care to patients.

In the majority of our practices we will also appoint a lead dentist who works in continual and close partnership with the practice support manager to optimise all aspects of practice operations and financial performance. Support is provided from the support centre in the form of a dedicated practice support manager.

Lumino dentists usually have dental assistants and dental hygienists working for them who will help take X-rays, clean patients’ teeth and teach patients how to care for their teeth and gums at home.

If you decide to become a Lumino dentist you will have access to the best dental technology and resources available. You can also rest assured that your training and personal development is something that Lumino takes very seriously and will invest in.

Hygienists & Therapists

As the country’s largest dental healthcare organisation, Lumino The Dentists is able to give support to our practices to create environments that enhance the quality of life of the staff. This ultimately enables us all to provide the highest level of service and care to patients.

The main role of the Lumino The Dentists dental hygienist is to help patients maintain good oral and general health by educating them on how to prevent oral disease through care of their teeth and gums. Lumino The Dentists dental hygienists play a crucial role in patient care and are highly valued. They are rewarded with warm, friendly working conditions, a competitive remuneration structure and excellent future career prospects and training.
