From The Dentist's Mouth - Dr Noor Al-Jassasi

Dr Noor Al-Jassasi joins the team at Lumino Long Bay bringing her experience in pain management & restorative treatments. 

What made you decide to get into dentistry as a career?

I grew up having really bad teeth, so I had frequent visits to my local dentist. Surprisingly, that made me more interested than afraid of the dental setting. I used to ask my dentist about the instruments and the procedures, and I always ask him to give me a mirror to watch him working on my teeth. Since then, I knew I wanted to be a dentist to help myself and others have good teeth to smile with confidence.

How long have you been practising dentistry?

I am still very fresh in the working field, and I am excited to practice and learn more.

Tell us about your career background?

I graduated in 2022 from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery with distinction and I am moving to Long Bay to start my career journey.

What do you love most about your job?

I love that dentistry combines both health and aesthetics and can truly change someone’s life! Teeth can have a huge impact on people’s confidence and well-being, both physically and mentally. Getting people out of pain and smiling confidently is incredibly rewarding.

What is the main piece of advice you give your patients?

Protection is better than cure. Same thing with teeth!

Why is this so important?

Teeth are precious and strong. However, different factors like bad oral hygiene and high sugar consumption can damage them. Once the damage is done and reaches a certain point it will need to be restored with a filling. This puts your tooth at risk of going through the “restorative cycle” which unfortunately means continuous and more aggressive treatments till we possibly lose the tooth!

Where would we find you outside of the practice?

I would probably be with friends out in nature or enjoying a fun game night at home. I love visiting new cafes and taking long walks. Maybe you would find me somewhere drawing, dancing, or taking pictures of the sky. I recently developed a passion for food so I might be in the kitchen cooking.
