From The Dentist's Mouth - Dr Parham Yazdani

Dr Parham Yazdani has recently joined Lumino, splitting his time between our Como St Takapuna practice & Dental On The Shore.

What made you decide to get into dentistry as a career?

I got into dentistry through a series of (fortunate) events from my drama and comedy days which later manifested as work experience with a prominent London dentist with whom I crossed paths in my formative years – he inspired me to enhance patient lives through dental care.

How long have you been practising dentistry?

I have been practising dentistry since 2015.

Tell us about your career background?

Since graduating, I’ve treated people from all walks of life, mainly in the melting pot of London. I honed my skills in mixed practice, providing NHS and private dentistry, and later moved into private only. Before emigrating to Auckland, I was the sole in-house dentist for PwC in London caring for thousands of staff across two sites, which I found to be a very enjoyable experience.

What are your special interests in dentistry?

I have a particular passion for treating complex restorative cases, especially those involving heavily worn or restored dentition. I have extensive experience in utilising digital dentistry to deliver same-day crowns, overlays, and bridges. Additionally, I offer aligner treatment using Invisalign to straighten teeth. The artist within me also enjoys providing facial aesthetic treatments, including the use of Botox and fillers, to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and enhance facial harmony.

What do you love most about your job?

I pursued dentistry as it allows me to be creative and think laterally, but above all, I love working closely with people to make a significant difference in their lives. For me it's about more than just teeth – I treat patients holistically and cherish building long-term, trusting relationships.

What is the main piece of advice you give your patients?

“I restore, you maintain.”
Patient education, excellent levels of oral hygiene, and regular maintenance with the hygienist are key for successful outcomes in dentistry.

Where would we find you outside of the practice?

Outside of the clinic, I'm a true enthusiast of music and film. You’ll often find me producing tunes, singing, or having a good karaoke session. I am curious and eager to explore new cultures and learn languages while travelling. I’m also an avid squash player, though I'm still on the lookout for the perfect club here in Auckland, to find new partners to challenge on the court!
