Lumino The Dentists in Fiji

12 December 2016

Doctors  Dr Werner Eichholz from Proudmouth - Auckland, Isha Akula from Tamatea - Napier, Jack Xhiha from Botany - Auckland and Ben Harris from North Avon - Christchurch  went on a voluntary, dental pain relief mission in the Naviti island area in Fiji.

The four volunteers from Lumino The Dentists treated 158 patients and gave each patient oral hygiene instructions, dietary advice as well as a toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste. Toys were also handed out to children attending the kindergarten in Soso village. The beneficial effects of the medical ship that provides services occassionally to the islands could clearly be seen in some of the younger children who have had basic restorative work done, however, there is still lots of work needed, especially basic restorative procedures.

Lumino The Dentists were recognised for their fantastic support in supplying materials and instruments, as were; Pacific Island Air (PIA) who generously discounted flights and excess baggage costs for the volunteers, Paradise Cove resort for generous discounts of accomodation and meals and all the volunteer dentists, who kindly gave their time and expertise, whilst leaving busy practices in New Zealand during this mission.
