Ferrymead Wyn Mossman
Lead Dentist

Dr Wyn Mossman

Wyn was born in Gisborne. He attended Otago University, graduating in Human Physiology & Dentistry in 1990.

Wyn began his career with a posting in the Hutt Valley Hospital, followed by 6 years working in Kent, in the UK.

He returned to Christchurch in 1997 settling in Sumner. Wyn worked as a partner at Papanui Dental Centre for 10 years before moving out to Ferrymead.

Dentist

Dr Shane Summerfield

Shane graduated in 1989 from the University of Otago and worked at the Christchurch public hospital in his first year.

He then went travelling and like most New Zealanders ended up working in the UK. This lasted several years interspersed with time back in NZ. Now Shane lives with his son and enjoys life by the beach in Sumner.

Shane’s aim in dentistry is to provide a friendly relaxed environment for patients and treatment of the highest standard.

Dr Sarah Lovie

Sarah is a 1993 Otago graduate who began her dental career in her hometown of Wellington. 

In 2000 she moved to Sydney where she worked in private practice and was a clinical tutor for the University of Sydney. In 2005 she returned to New Zealand, settling in Christchurch with her family. 

Sarah is a general dentist who practices all aspects of dentistry. She has a particular interest in dental care for medically compromised patients and was a Senior Dentist at the Christchurch Hospital Dental Service since 2005.

She is also an active member of the New Zealand Dental Association and was President of the Canterbury Branch in 2018-19. 

Like so many of our staff, Sarah lives locally and was delighted to join the team at Ferrymead Dental in early 2018.

Dr William Burnard

William appreciates that as dentists, they get the chance to spend time and get to know so many good people from all walks of life without ever leaving the workplace! He hopes to ensure all his patients are well-educated about their oral health, so their appointments are proactive and routine rather than reactive and worrisome.

His dental interests lie in general and cosmetic dentistry with a focus on placing and restoring dental implants.

His dental interests lie in general and cosmetic dentistry with a focus on placing and restoring dental implants.

William trained in the U.S. where he received a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology followed by a Doctor of Dental Surgery from The Ohio State University. After graduating, he completed a General Practice Residency at Northwestern University in Chicago, in order to learn more advanced prosthetic and surgical techniques. William then worked in private practice in the Chicago CBD before moving to Christchurch.

William firmly believes that education doesn’t stop after graduation. He frequently attends local study groups and is an avid learner, regularly attending regional conferences and courses. "Education an essential part of being a dentist, especially with technologies rapidly advancing and requiring us to keep on top of the latest techniques."

Outside of the practice, William enjoys wine tasting, running, drawing, and spending time with family and friends. He's also a passionate pizza maker and can create a wide variety of styles from scratch, from deep-dish to hand-tossed New York-style pizza.

Dr Samuel Loi

Samuel is a recent graduate from the University of Otago, having completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2021. Following his academic achievement, he dedicated two years to practicing dentistry in Hamilton. Now, Samuel has decided to embark on a new chapter in his professional journey by relocating to Christchurch.

In addition to English, Samuel is fluent in Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia, facilitating effective communication with a diverse range of patients. Professionally, he is an active member of various dental associations, including the New Zealand Dental Association, New Zealand Society of Endodontics, New Zealand Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and New Zealand Society for Anaesthesia and Sedation in Dentistry. These affiliations underline Samuel's commitment to staying informed about the latest developments in dentistry and upholding high standards of professional practice.

Ferrymead Claire Heeran
Hygienist

Claire Heeran

Claire moved to NZ from Ireland in 1984. She studied at The University of Otago and graduated in 2003 with a diploma in Dental Hygiene, a year later gaining a certificate in local anaesthesia at AUT. She continues to do on going oral health education.

Claire has worked full time in Christchurch since graduating and is a registered member of the NZ Dental Hygiene Association.
She enjoys helping our patients develop their oral hygiene skills.

Jasmine Ferrymead
Oral Health Therapist

Jasmine Buller

Jasmine graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Oral Health in 2018.  She returned to Christchurch to start her career with the Canterbury District Health Board providing dental care for children and adolescents.

She aims to create a calm and comfortable environment for all her patients and provide them with the knowledge to improve their oral health. 

Outside of work Jasmine enjoys running, yoga, baking and spending time with her family and friends.
