Lead Dentist

Dr Ngahina Gillies

Ngahina graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2010 and is a member of the New Zealand Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the New Zealand Dental Association and the ITI – international team for implantology.

Ngahina has a detailed knowledge of modern dentistry and has an interest in how oral health can affect a person’s overall health. She is a skilled clinician who performs all aspects of general and cosmetic dentistry. Ngahina has a detailed knowledge of modern dentistry and has an interest in how oral health can affect a person’s overall health. She is a skilled clinician who performs all aspects of general and cosmetic dentistry. Ngahina combines her love of meeting new people and travelling each year by making time to attend a range of national and international courses and conferences. These hours of extra training spent each year ensure regular professional development and expansion of her skills and knowledge.

Originally from Australia, Ngahina has been living locally in Masterton with her fiancé Damien Pivac for the past 3 years. Ngahina has experience with nervous patients and she always demonstrates a caring and relatable approach towards any treatment. She gets great satisfaction through forming long-term relationships with her patients. When not at the dental practice, Ngahina enjoys travelling, running, Zumba and spending time with her family and many animals.

Dentist

Dr George Hunt

George graduated from the University of Otago in 1985 at which point he joined his father E George Hunt (George Snr) at George Hunt Dental where they worked together for the next 25 years.

George is passionate about using the ever changing materials and technology in dentistry to provide positive outcomes for his patients.  He has a particular interest in CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing) dentistry as well as the evolution of implant dentistry and Cerec one visit crowns.

Outside of life at the practice, George enjoys playing golf and squash, cycling and spending time in the Wairarapa outdoors with his wife Julie and their dog Bran.

George works at Lumino Masterton 4 days a week. 

Dentist

Dr Mun-Ee Thai

Mun-Ee is from Melbourne and has extensive private practice experience working in Australia, Singapore, and New Zealand.  He is fortunate to work with a great team all dedicated to helping patients with their dental needs.  Mun-Ee’s areas of interest include minimally-invasive dentistry, periodontal (gum) disease, removal of teeth (non-surgical and surgical), and emergency dentistry.  


Outside of dentistry, Mun-Ee has a keen interest in global affairs and international relations (even returning to university to gain a Masters degree). Also, you can find him hiking/tramping in the warmer months or snowboarding down a mountain during the winter season. 

Dentist

Dr Jacobus Vorster

Dr Jaco Vorster joins Lumino from South Africa, where he graduated in 2009. 

He has a special interest in Endodontics, Crown and Bridge work. His main clinical goals include giving quality dentistry to patients as well as incorporating modern day techniques to give long lasting results. Dr Jaco also does Invisalign - a procedure that corrects and straightens teeth (mush like 'invisible braces' as they call it).

He is planning to further his studies and says he is always willing to push himself as much as he can.

Jaco says he loves meeting new people and being able to connect with patients, not just in a professional but also a social manner.

Outside of the practice, Jaco loves to travel and explore the world. He also enjoys sports including cricket and golf.  His favourite place to be is on a secluded beach on a warm sunny day (with a cold drink in hand) and with his wife by his side! 2018 is looking like an exciting year with his first born baby due!

Dentist

Dr Joanne Au

Joanne earned a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (Hons) from the University of Otago in 2017.  

Joanne is interested in all aspects of general dentistry, and is a firm believer in lifelong learning. She is always actively working to be a better and more skilled clinician. 

She hopes to empower people to take ownership of their dental health and likes helping people look and feel their very best - big cheesy grins always are what she loves most about her job after all. 

When not at work, Joanne likes to make her own clothes and spending time with family and friends. You may also find her in the secondhand bookstore looking for a good read, or at the bird sanctuary.

Hygienist

Candi McMickle

Candi graduated from Lansing Community College in Michigan (USA) with an Applied Science Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene in 1994.  She is a registered dental hygienist and furthers her professional development with ongoing continuing education courses.

Candi joined Lumino in May 2016 and is looking forward to helping patients maintain a healthy mouth.

In her spare time Candi enjoys hiking, going to the beach and to the movies.

Oral Health Therapist

Ruvimbo Rusere

Rue graduated with a Bachelor of Health from the University of Otago in 2010. She expresses a great interest in teaching good oral health habits and informing her patients of the best ways to brush their teeth.

Rue loves meeting new people and getting to know more about her patients. She loves spending time with her family, particularly her two boys who are also one of her biggest motivators.

Practice Manager

Trish Harrington

Trish is a long-serving member of the Masterton practice joining them in 1999 before they joined the Lumino team, so she is well known to all their patients and the Masterton community. She has valuable knowledge in the dental field and is experienced in assisting all patients to assure that they have a positive experience when visiting their dentist.

Trish enjoys helping patients to achieve their healthy smile and working with a great team.

When she has time away from the practice Trish enjoys travel, gardening, cycling, reading and spending time with her daughter who lives in Christchurch.
