Pitt Street Ken Orchiston
Dentist

Dr Ken Orchiston

Ken graduated from The University of Otago in 1992 and has been with Pitt Street Dental practice since 2004. Ken, originally from Dunedin, returned home after gaining a wealth of experience practicing in the United Kingdom, Taupo and Christchurch. He enjoys all aspects of general dentistry and the interaction that he has with his patients by maintaining a key interest in helping them achieve good oral health.

Dr Purobi Datta

Originally from Melbourne, Purobi graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Adelaide in 2009.

Purobi believes in not just treating teeth but also the person behind the smile. She takes a holistic approach to oral health and it gives her great satisfaction to see the parts fitting together to achieve healthy and beautiful smiles that her patients can be proud of.

Purobi enjoys the variety that comes with general dentistry and takes a special interest in preventative and Minimal Intervention dentistry. She is a member of the New Zealand Dental Association and regularly attends conferences to keep up with the advancements in dentistry.

Dr Grace Kim

Grace began her dental career with Dip DentTech in 2002 at Otago and went on to study BDS. She graduated from Otago University in 2009 with merit. 

She is passionate about providing excellent oral health care. It is important to her to truly understand patients needs with personalised long-term treatment plans. Grace is caring and empathetic towards all her patients as being in the dental chair is not the most pleasant experience. She is professional and calm, which is effective in reducing dental anxiety.

Grace enjoys all aspects of general dentistry and proficient in providing preventative, restorative, prosthetic and endodontic care. She is particularly interested in furthering education in oral science where innovative technologies and development in materials are applied to create better oral care.

When Grace is not looking into patients teeth, you will find her on the slopes on her snowboard enjoying beautiful snow covered mountains. She also puts her dentistry skills in baking and painting in her spare time. Grace feels passionate about giving back to the community by actively participating in community volunteer work.

Pitt Street Peter Mei
Specialist Orthodontist

Dr Peter Mei

Peter completed his postgraduate study at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands and West China School of Stomatology, Sichuan University. He worked for four years in the Netherlands before relocating to Dunedin in 2011. He is also an Associate Professor and Clinical Supervisor for postgraduate and undergraduate students at the University of Otago.

Peter is a member of several international professional organizations, including the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists, the New Zealand Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, the European Orthodontic Society, and the World Federation of Orthodontists. 

Peter has published extensively in peer-reviewed international journals and serves as a reviewer for various international journals. He has been the recipient of several national and international awards, such as the European Orthodontic Society Awards.

Peter has been practising orthodontics for more than ten years and is an authorized specialist by Invisalign and Incognito. He provides traditional braces, clear aesthetic braces, Invisalign invisible braces and customized Incognito hidden braces for children as well as adults.

Lee Pitt St
Dentist

Dr Lee Phua

Lee grew up in Dunedin and graduated from the University of Otago in 2008. He spent 10 years working in Australia in both public and private practice; in Sunshine Coast, Cairns and Melbourne before returning to Dunedin in 2019 to raise his family.

Lee practices in all aspects of general dentistry but with a special interest in restorative and aesthetic dentistry. Lee's passion for dentistry lies in providing quality treatment tailored to the individual needs of each patient.

​Outside of dentistry he enjoys spending time with his family and going out to enjoy the warm Dunedin surf.

Fiona Chen
Dentist

Dr Fiona Chen

Fiona graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours) from the University of Queensland in 2021. After graduation, she worked in a regional town in Queensland where she practiced all aspects of general dentistry. 

Fiona has a particular interest in preventative and restorative dentistry and always strives to ensure her patients feel comfortable and leave with a smile on their face. She believes strongly in the impact of a person’s smile on their emotional well-being, self-confidence, and overall health. This drives her to provide quality care for her patients.

Dr Amir Hatami

Amir graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Adelaide. He also has a BScD (hons), MSc & FRANDS.

Amir's main dental interests include extractions and aesthetics.

Outside of the practice Amir enjoys farming. 

Joyce
Dentist

Dr Joyce Yu

Joyce grew up in Christchurch and graduated from the University of Otago in 2015 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery with distinction. She has worked as a dental and maxillofacial house surgeon at the Dunedin Public Hospital and School of Dentistry. Since then she has worked as a general dentist in Oamaru and has returned to Dunedin with her husband. 

Joyce’s caring and calm nature will put the nervous patient at ease. She enjoys all aspects of dentistry and is passionate about working with each individual to create a treatment plan that improves their health, smile and confidence. She is also fluent in Mandarin Chinese.

Dr Kylie Kelvin

Kylie graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Otago in 2021.

Her dental interests include esthetic dentistry & restorative dentistry.

Kylie's main goal is to make patients feel comfortable and have them leave empowered and more confident.

Kylie enjoys meeting different people from different walks of life & learning about them. She also enjoys giving her patients a chance to smile again.

Outside of the practice, Kylie likes playing disc golf and discovering more new disc golf courses to practice at. She also likes going for walks along the beach and spending time with her loved ones & family.

A fun fact about Kylie is that she was once very into bodybuilding and was a 'gym-freak'.

Abby Young

Abby is a very skilful dental hygienist who graduated from The University of Otago in 2005. She has been at the Pitt Street practice since 2005 and is particularly interested in preventative dentistry. Abby is passionate about promoting good oral healthcare to all her patients and enjoys seeing the positive changes in her patients when they achieve a healthy smile.

Sue Morriss

Sue graduated in 1995 and has been working at Duncroft Dental since 1996. To her, the most enjoyable part of being a dental hygienist is providing patient advocacy and support while being actively involved in assisting them to achieve their aspirations for oral health.

Sue's goal is to develop long-term relationships with her clients as a healthcare practitioner by utilising a preventative approach to wellness. Her dental interests include maintaining high standards in the dental hygiene profession, soft tissue rehabilitation, preventative oral health care and helping people achieve the smile they desire.

Sheree Barker

Sheree Barker is the Practice Manager at Lumino Pitt St.

She loves the variety of her role and the team’s passion for what they do.

Outside of the practice, Sheree loves to spend time with her family. She also enjoys watching ‘Supernatural’ and says she can’t live without chocolate!
