Senior Dentist

Dr Stephen Charles

Stephen graduated with a BDS from The University of Otago in 1992 and has been at Wairau Park Dental since 1993. Outside of the practice Stephen enjoys fishing and tennis as well as spending time with his wife and two young daughters.

Lead Dentist

Dr Tony Dey

Tony graduated from Otago University with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2001, and then worked for 3 years in the public sector. First in the busy Oral Surgery department of Waikato Hospital and later for a Maori health provider on the East Cape. During his stint on 'The Coast' he learnt to surf and still manages to get back out that way for a little work and to catch a wave.

Dentist

Dr Sonika Ghaie

Sonika graduated from the University of Leeds in 2005 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery. She is also a member of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

She enjoys building a relationship and trust with her patients and making them happy. She solves their dental issues in a gentle, pleasant and professional manner.

Sonika is interested in all aspect of dentistry and always likes to keep up to date with the latest developments. She has particular interest in IV Sedation to help nervous patients. 

Having recently moved to New Zealand Soinka and her Fiancé enjoy exploring the country, enjoying the weather (compared to the UK) and she has taken up upholstery and pottery.

Dr Richard Choi

Richard grew up in the North Shore and attended Westlake Boys before moving to Australia and graduating from James Cook University with a BDS in 2014.

He gained valuable experience working in remote parts of Australia, with a focus on rural and indigenous health, followed by a period working in a private practice in metro Brisbane. After those several years in Australia, he made the decision to return home and join the Lumino Team.

Richard enjoys all aspects of dentistry, with particular interests in wisdom teeth extractions and aesthetic restorations. He is fascinated with the latest dental technology and techniques…

Richard grew up in the North Shore and attended Westlake Boys before moving to Australia and graduating from James Cook University with a BDS in 2014.

He gained valuable experience working in remote parts of Australia, with a focus on rural and indigenous health, followed by a period working in a private practice in metro Brisbane. After those several years in Australia, he made the decision to return home and join the Lumino Team.

Richard enjoys all aspects of dentistry, with particular interests in wisdom teeth extractions and aesthetic restorations. He is fascinated with the latest dental technology and techniques and has undertaken numerous continuing education courses including a 2 year post graduate mini-residency course in orthodontics.

He is passionate about fitness and nutrition, as well as helping his patients understand the many links between oral health and systemic health.

Outside of dentistry, Richard enjoys exercising, playing the guitar and travelling the world. One of his most memorable trips was a dental humanitarian trip to Cambodia, working for a non-profit organisation providing free dental services in orphanages and schools in provincial areas.

Oral Health Therapist

Cheryl York

Cheryl graduated with a BHSc in Oral Health from AUT University in 2015 and is a registered Dental Therapist and registered Dental Hygienist.

The most enjoyable pat of Cheryl's role is helping patients achieve and maintain their healthy teeth and gums. While inspiring self-esteem through increased self-confidence and improved aesthetics.

Cheryl has a clinical interest in preventative and cosmetic dentistry, along with a special interest in helping patients resolve issues caused by dental sensitivity, both in the dental chair and at home.

Outside of work, Cheryl enjoys spending time with friends and family, along with keeping fit.

Fa'e Laume

Fa’e is an enthusiastic and personable young professional, she graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelors of Oral Health in 2017.

Since graduating Fa’e has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and skills having worked in various private clinics in West Auckland, South Auckland and now the North Shore honing both her dental hygiene and dental therapy scopes of practice.

The most empowering aspect of Fa’es job, she feels, is the ability to improve an individual’s quality of life. She achieves this through educating her patients about how to maintain healthy oral health outcomes by having a holistic approach when creating…

Since graduating Fa’e has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and skills having worked in various private clinics in West Auckland, South Auckland and now the North Shore honing both her dental hygiene and dental therapy scopes of practice.

The most empowering aspect of Fa’es job, she feels, is the ability to improve an individual’s quality of life. She achieves this through educating her patients about how to maintain healthy oral health outcomes by having a holistic approach when creating care plans specific to the needs of each of her patients. Fa’es gentle and empathetic touch coupled with her fine eye for detail will ensure for great results following treatment, and you will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to maintain great oral health outcomes.

Fa’e is so passionate about education that she is also a clinical educator at AUT for the Oral Health Department.

Fa’e also offers FREE annual dental examinations for adolescents, and also any necessary preventative or restorative treatment required.

When she is not in the clinic Fa’e likes to keep herself busy with her friends and family.

Fa’e works at Lumino Wairau Park on Wednesdays and Thursdays and Saturdays.
