A brighter smile starts with the right advice

There's no one-size-fits-all approach to teeth whitening. Your teeth, oral health and smile goals all help determine which option may be right for you. At your consultation, our team can explain the professional whitening options available at your chosen practice and what to expect before you decide whether to go ahead.

Whitening can help with Whitening won't change
Surface stains from tea, coffee, and red wine The colour of crowns, veneers, fillings or bonding
Staining from smoking Discolouration from an injury to a tooth
Discolouration that comes with age Deeper stains, like those from some childhood antibiotics

Results vary depending on your natural tooth shade and the condition of your teeth.

In-chair whitening

Looking for a more immediate change? In-chair whitening is done at the practice by a dental professional and generally takes around one to two hours. If it suits you, it's booked as a separate appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Is the whitening consultation really free?

Yes. It's a free 15-minute whitening consultation at participating Lumino practices. Any treatment, further assessment or extra appointments, like an exam, x-rays or a clean, will be discussed and quoted before you decide to go ahead.

How long does teeth whitening take?

In-chair whitening generally takes around one to two hours. Take-home whitening starts with impressions of your teeth, then a separate visit to collect your custom trays. Your dentist will explain how to use them.

Will whitening work on crown, veneers or fillings?

No. Whitening doesn't change the colour of crowns, veneers or other dental restorations. Your dentist can talk you through how this may affect the overall look of your smile.

What if I have sensitive teeth?

Some sensitivity during or after whitening isn't unusual, so it's worth raising at your consultation. Your dentist or hygienist will check your oral health and help work out whether a whitening option suits you.

How much does teeth whitening cost?

It depends on the type of whitening and the practice. Your team will explain the options and pricing at your consultation, before you decide whether to go ahead.

How long will my results last?

It varies with your lifestyle and habits. Your dental team can talk about ways to help maintain your results, including whether home touch-up kits are available at your practice.

Can anyone have their teeth whitened?

Not everyone. Your teeth and gums need to be healthy first. Whitening isn't recommended for under-16s, and your dentist may suggest waiting if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

What if my practice isn't taking part?

Not every Lumino practice offers free whitening consultations, and the practices that do can change over time. If yours doesn't come up when you search, choose another one nearby or contact your practice to ask about whitening.

Can I spread the cost?

Lumino practices offer a range of ways to pay. Ask at your consultation, or see our flexible ways to pay.
