From The Dentist's Mouth - Dr Hugh Harding

Dr Hugh Harding moved to New Zealand from the UK in 2023 joining the Lumino White Smile team. He is now also available at our Lumino Ponsonby practice.

What made you decide to get into dentistry as a career?

The blend of science, problem-solving and working with people caught my attention at first. Plus you don’t have to work in an office!

How long have you been practising dentistry?

Almost 6 years.

Tell us about your career background?

I graduated from the University of Sheffield in the UK in 2017. Since then I have worked in practice as a general dentist as well as in the oral surgery departments of multiple hospitals in London, including the world famous Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. I only moved to NZ at the start of this year but I’m really excited to take on the new challenge.

What is your most memorable case to date?

Taking a patient from being so scared they cried before entering the front door of the practice to pain-free and smiling again for the first time in 15 years.

What do you love most about your job?

There’s always more than one way to achieve any outcome. Each patient and each case provides a new specific set of challenges to overcome and goals to achieve.
