Dr Jonty Schmidt graduated from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2020. He began his career in the Hospital Dental Department at Christchurch Hospital, where he gained valuable experience in surgical, specialist, and medically complex care.

After his time in the hospital system Jonty moved into private practice, first in Christchurch and later in Queensland, Australia. Across these roles, he continued to grow his clinical skills while building a reputation for delivering high‑quality, patient‑focused care. Jonty enjoys all areas of general dentistry and has a particular interest in rehabilitation dentistry, helping patients restore function and confidence in their smiles. Jonty is excited to return to the wider Dunedin region, where he previously spent his student years, and looks forward to exploring more of the area’s incredible hiking trails.

Outside of dentistry, Jonty is an accomplished musician and a dedicated oboist. He has performed with various orchestras and ensembles throughout New Zealand and is keen to continue his musical involvement back in Dunedin.

Mildred graduated with a Bachelor degree of Oral Health from University of Otago in 2020. In 2012, studied a Postgraduate degree in Public Health with special interest in health promotion from University of Auckland. She is originally from the Philippines, where she gained a degree in Doctor of Dental Medicine from Centro Escolar University and practiced for over 10 years before she migrated to New Zealand in 2007. 

Her passion for dentistry and public health led her to practice oral health therapy. She respects patient’s values and needs, with an aim to provide quality care; educating them on the importance of healthy dental habits, promoting wellbeing and achieving beautiful smiles.

Outside of work Mildred cherishes spending time with family, especially enjoying travelling to and exploring new places with them within NZ and abroad. She love cooking, baking, watching movies or TV,  sewing and crocheting.

Hayley Bichan is an Adult Scope Dental Therapist who can provide Routine Dental Examination and Xray’s, Restorative treatments and Referrals for any follow-up treatment needs.

Hayley graduated in 2007 with a Diploma in Dental therapy, she then completed further study to gain her bachelors degree in Dental Therapy and Masters of Oral Health (Distinction). In 2022, she completed the Graduate Certificate in Dental Therapy (Advanced Clinical Practice) in Melbourne and was awarded the ADOHTA postgraduate award. She is currently half way through the Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Otago.

Hayley has always been passionate about oral health care and loved being around children, so naturally gravitated towards a career in Community Oral Health Service. She soon realised she enjoyed working with the adolescent age group and this soon morphed into a passion for working with and educating adult patients.

Hayley has completed several community based oral health initiatives, mainly focusing on delivering dental education within early childhood centres and primary schools. The highlight of this was for Hayley was supplying all four year olds in Cromwell with electric toothbrushes, floss wands and toothpaste in 2021. She is very passionate about providing oral health education to anyone willing to listen.

When Hayley isn’t working she enjoys being active with her husband and two young children and loves to do any kind of crafting. They are looking forward to spending some quality time together travelling when she graduates in 2026 and has agreed to no more study for a few years.
