Dr Gerard (Gerry) Thyne

Dr Gerard Thyne commenced specialist practice in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Wellington in 1996. He has degrees in both Dentistry and Medicine, and is registered as a Specialist Surgeon with the  Dental Council of New Zealand  and the Medical Council of New Zealand. 

He has a postgraduate masters degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, achieved with Distinction and a Specialist Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. 

With a strong interest in professional development and continuing education. He lectures in New Zealand and internationally, and is head of the Oral and Maxillofacial Training Unit at Hutt Hospital…

Dr Gerard Thyne has a busy implant practice, placing over 5000 dental implants for dental reconstruction ranging from single teeth to full jaw replacement. He also carries out a range of dentoalveolar surgery including; removal of wisdom teeth, broken down teeth, bone grafting and biopsy of oral lesions.

Dr David Ching-Shong

Dr David Chin-Shong graduated Medicine in 1996 from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, and Dentistry in 2002 from University College Cork. He pursued his specialty training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in London and Liverpool, receiving his Consultant qualifications in 2006.

David has an outstanding interest in making patient experience positive at all times - ensuring the patient understands and feels in control of the process.

He is a proud recipient of two UK Aesthetic Dentistry awards which he credits to the importance of teamwork and he is very excited to be a part of the team at Wellington Oral…

In his free time, David enjoys following his children’s sporting pursuits, and also enjoys outdoor activities including camping, barbeques, and golf.

Dr Barry Geldenhuys

Mr. Geldenhuys graduated Dentistry in 2001 from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa and Medicine in 2007 from the University of Pretoria. He completed his specialist training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Barry relocated to Wellington in 2018 with his wife and two children. He joined the Wellington Oral Surgery team in 2020. He also works as a Consultant for the Hutt Valley DHB and is heavily involved in managing trauma for the region as well as house surgeon training.

Barry is interested in all aspects of Maxillofacial Surgery with a special interest in dental implants, oral and orthognathic surgery.
