Dr Jaco Minnaar is one of the dentists at our Lumino Long Bay practice. He relocated to Auckland a couple of years ago after nearly 20 years of private practice in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
How and when did you decide dentistry was right for you?
Growing up I was lucky to have had a very caring and gentle dentist, and having him ask if I wanted to have a look at what his day looks like when in High School probably nailed it.
How long have you been practising dentistry?
Since 2001.
Tell us a bit more about your special interests in dentistry?
I do like doing whatever I can for my patient in every situation. Main interests include orthodontics, endodontics, crowns and bridges.
If you could give a patient ONE piece of advice on how best to look after their oral health, what would it be?
Always do the best you can to look after yourself - including teeth.
What is your most memorable case to date?
The beautiful final result from a difficult orthodontic case.
What do you MOST enjoy about your job?
Having satisfied and happy patients after treatment and obviously interacting with all kinds of different people.
Outside of dentistry, what do you do with your time?
I do enjoy running, cycling, swimming, hiking - weather permitted. I also enjoy reading and spending time with my family.
Finally, what makes you smile?
Definitely seeing that my family and friends are happy.
