From The Dentist’s Mouth – Dr Tiger Yang

Dr Tiger Yang joins the team at Lumino Auckland Central and aims to give his patients confident smiles.

What made you decide to get into dentistry as a career?

I have always been interested in healthcare, initially did a year of biomedical sciences in Auckland University, learned more about dentistry via friends and research and decided to pursue dentistry.

How long have you been practising dentistry?

3 years out of university, during university did placements in rural Australia as well as central Brisbane.

Tell us about your career background.

I have worked quite extensively in rural areas in Australia, did a year in a private clinic in Manurewa and currently working with Lumino as well as another practice in mission bay so a good mix of oral surgery and cosmetic cases.

What is your most memorable case to date?

A younger male patient who had severe widespread decay throughout the mouth and regretfully opted to go with full clearance and full dentures. Neglect in oral health and a lack of dental education had led him to losing all his teeth at an early age.

What do you love most about your job?

Restoring smiles as well as confidence in patients, getting patients on track with their oral health and interacting and meeting new people.

What are your special interests in dentistry?

I am interested in cosmetic dentistry, restorative dentistry, and oral surgery.

What is the main piece of advice you give your patients?

Maintain a high level of oral hygiene at home, minimise snacking and try to keep sugary food and drinks close together with main meals and getting regular check-ups so any issues can be found and solved while they are still minor.

Where would we find you outside of the practice?

Out and about enjoying what NZ has to offer.
