From The Dentist's Mouth - Dr Andrew Sutherland

Dr Andrew Sutherland joins our Lumino Chartwell & Rototuna practices after previously working for our Palmerston North practice.

What made you decide to get into dentistry as a career?

As long as I can remember I wanted to be involved in the health field.

How long have you been practising dentistry?

A long time.

Tell us about your career background.

My first few years were in my hometown of Hawera, the next 22 years were as a senior dentist at Palmerston North Hospital. The last 6yrs were in a Lumino practice in Palmerston North and Fridays at Whanganui hospital.

What is your most memorable case to date?

Treating a lady who was so embarrassed by her smile she would only go to the letterbox, we were able to give her smile back and within 18 months she was second in charge of a small WINZ office in town.

What do you love most about your job?

Knowing I have provided the best treatment I can to help meet the needs of patients and seeing that they are able to relax during the appointment.

What are your special interests in dentistry?

Treating anxious patients and those who need extra input re their particular circumstances.

What is the main piece of advice you give your patients?

Brush your teeth and gums twice a day and flossing once a day is well worth it!

Where would we find you outside of the practice?

With my wife and friends or mountain biking.
