From The Dentist's Mouth - Dr Baris Alhan

We're thrilled to welcome Dr Baris Alhan to Tauranga after relocating here from the UK.

What made you decide to get into dentistry as a career?

I have initially qualified as a Biomedical Scientist. After working in a hospital laboratory for a year, I decided it is not something that I want to do rest of my life. Around the time when I was looking for a new job, I had a visit to my dentist and thought that it is a position where I can have a direct positive impact on people’s lives.

How long have you been practising dentistry?

I have been practicing dentistry since 2018.

Tell us about your career background?

I have completed my Dental Foundation Training in London. Since then I have worked in National Health Service for a short period of time before moving on to private dentistry. I have been nominated as a finalist in various categories in The Dentistry Awards over the years.

What is your most memorable case to date?

My most memorable case is my first smile makeover case where I designed veneers and crowns. This case has taught me the most.

What do you love most about your job?

I love interacting with my patients where I get to know them to provide the smile they want.

What are your special interests in dentistry?
Cosmetic and aesthetic dentistry, including smile makeovers, teeth straightening with clear aligners and digital dentistry.

What is the main piece of advice you give your patients?

Spit, don’t rinse!

Where would we find you outside of the practice?

You would find me either travelling to a new place or trying out a new restaurant with my girlfriend Georgia.
