From The Dentist's Mouth - Dr Beverley Tam

Dr Beverley Tam has joined the team at Lumino Remuera Dental Centre, bringing 23 years of experience to her role.

What made you decide to get into dentistry as a career?

I have always been interested in cosmetics and improving patients' smiles. My brother is also a dentist and he seemed to enjoy it, this influenced me in my decision to head to Otago.

How long have you been practising dentistry?

Since 1998, 23 years.

Tell us about your career background

I graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery and worked in Auckland for a few years then headed to London for an OE, worked in London for about 18 months. It was quite a different experience working in NHS as opposed to private practice. We then returned to Auckland and have been practicing here ever since. Have experienced working in an A and E practice but mostly private practices. Was in one place in Ellerslie for 12 years.

What is your most memorable case to date?

Had a particular patient who wanted to improve his smile, spent a lot of time placing crowns/veneers on his anterior teeth, was very rewarding to see the transformation in his smile and having a satisfied patient.
