Dr Sonia Sarangal recently joined the team at Lumino Advanced Dental Care Manurewa.

What made you decide to get into dentistry as a career?

Dentistry offers many opportunities. It's also a rapidly changing and expanding profession. I’ve been interested in the healthcare field since I was in high school, and then developed my passion for helping others about their oral health when I got  into dental college.

How long have you been practising dentistry?

 2 and a half years.

Tell us about your career background?

I practised in India  for 2 and half years in India and recently passed one of the most challenging and difficult overseas Australian Dental Council registration examination. I am genuinely passionate about advancing my career  as a Dentist  and excited to apply what I’ve learned about patient care and evaluation, diagnosis and treatment.

What is your most memorable case to date?

One of my patients got dental phobia. I tried my best to make him feel calm and relaxed during consultation and what I did was build a caring relationship between him and I. This made the patient feel comfortable on the chair. That was something wonderfully memorable and changed the patient’s life through smile and function. Building a relationship with a patient is above and beyond training and expertise for me.

What do you love most about your job?

When you are unhappy with your smile, you need more than just a dentist to give you the gleaming smile you desire. . You need an artist. Turning a flawed smile into something beautiful requires a dentist with an artistic eye and I love to bring smile on my patients face. connecting with my patients and giving the most compassionate care possible to help support their safety and well-being is my priority.

What are your special interests in dentistry?

I am an expert in general dentistry with a special interest in cosmetic dentistry, restoration, extraction, teeth whitening, crown, dental bridges, and dentures.

What is the main piece of advice you give your patients?

Good teeth and gum care is an important part of maintaining overall health.

Where would we find you outside of the practice?

Outside of work, I love to do yoga, meditation, reading books, travelling to different countries and spending time with family and nature.
