What made you decide to get into dentistry as a career?
Debbie has always been interested in supporting her friends and family to be as healthy as possible. Learning about the importance of oral health to your overall health led her to study to be an oral health therapist.
How long have you been practising dentistry?
Debbie graduated with a BHSc in Oral health therapy from AUT University in 2012, and has been practising since then.
Tell us about your career background.
Debbie has been a clinical educator at AUT Oral Health Department and also has a post-graduate qualification in Health Professional education.
What do you love most about your job?
Debbie strongly believes that oral health is one of the most important elements of a person’s overall health. She loves being able to contribute meaningfully to her patient's health and well-being.
What are your specialist interests in dentistry?
Debbie is interested and skilled at in chair whitening.
What is the main piece of advice you give your patients?
Debbie thinks that the most important piece of advice for her patients is the correct technique for brushing their teeth.
Why is this important?
Because incorrect brushing technique causes damage to a person's gums. The correct technique improves their health and prevents many problems.
Where would we find you outside of the practice?
Debbie enjoys gardening, swimming, and especially loves bush walking.
