Dr Mark Johnson

Born and raised in Christchurch, Mark completed his University Studies in Otago leaving with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (1986) and a Master of Dental Surgery (1997) with distinction in Orthodontics. On completion of his Bachelor's Degree, Mark travelled overseas working as a General Dentist in London and the Middle East. Mark’s decision to specialise in Orthodontics saw him return to Otago to complete his 3 year Masters Degree in Orthodontics.

Mark is very proud of Bay Orthodontics and his team for the warm, friendly, professional environment they have created to ensure a patient-focused approach.

On weekends you will find Mark on the sidelines or involved in some way in the many sporting codes his boys play.

Mark has enjoyed a lifetime of playing hockey and continues to support the Tauranga Hockey Association.  Mark is also a keen fisherman and enjoys escaping for weekend hunting adventures.

Dr Justin Kearney

Justin is one of our specialist Orthodontists. Inspired by his own experience of Orthodontic treatment as a teenager, Justin is passionate about helping both kids and adults achieve healthy, beautiful smiles.

Originally from Ireland, he completed his dental training at University College Cork. He graduated with an honours degree, receiving awards from both Irish and UK dental societies for his academic and clinical work.

Whilst working in the UK, Justin completed a 3 year Masters degree in Aesthetic Dentistry at Kings College London. Following this, he earned a place on the Orthodontic specialist training pathway and graduated with a Doctorate…

Justin has successfully completed Orthodontic specialist examinations at both the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. He was awarded the William Houston Gold Medal for achieving the highest mark amongst Orthodontists sitting the Royal College examinations across the UK, Australia and UAE. He also received an award from the British Orthodontic Society for the standard of his orthodontic clinical work.

In 2018, Justin made the move to New Zealand and is proud to call Tauranga his home. He is married to a Kiwi, Kimberley, and they have two young daughters. When he's not straightening teeth, you're likely to see Justin out running or spending time with his young family.

Justin provides treatment at our Tauranga, Whakatane and Rotorua rooms.

Angie O'Dea

Originally from the UK, Dental Assistant, Angie has worked in the dental sector for over 20 years and brings considerable experience to the practice.

Angie has worked in the dental sector for over 20 years and brings considerable experience to the practice. Her great sense of humour and enthusiasm creates a fun atmosphere in the workplace. 

Angie married a local Tauranga man and together they have two adult children.

Angie’s keen sense of adventure sees her enjoying many outdoor pursuits. Her favourite activities are walking up and around the mount and shopping. She has also recently taken up mountain biking.

I am a qualified Orthodontic Auxiliary and Dental Assistant and have been working in the dental industry for many years. I thoroughly enjoy working closely with patients to achieve a great end result.

Practice Manager

Alice Garrity

Alice returned from Dublin, Ireland in 2019 and is glad to be part of the Bay Orthodontics team. She worked in Pharmacy Management for six years before re-training in the health and fitness industry.

Alice is responsible for the smooth running of the practice and enjoys being part of a professional, energetic and patient-focused team.

Outside of the practice Alice can be found doing DIY projects around the home, spending time in New Zealand's fabulous outdoors or in the gym. She also enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Receptionist

Eileen Mowat

Originally from South Africa, Receptionist Eileen recently joined Bay Orthodontics after moving down to Tauranga from Auckland, with her family.

Eileen brings years of experience as a receptionist in the Veterinary field and is looking forward to becoming a valuable member of the Bay Orthodontics family.

Eileen is married to Rhys who grew up in Matamata and they have two grown-up children. As a family they have enjoyed many adventures, having lived on a large African game farm when they were younger. They now look forward to enjoying the beautiful Bay of Plenty. Outside of the practice, Eileen enjoys walking and gardening.

Carol Taurau

Carol is patient-focused with over 15 years experience which she gained while travelling through Australia and the United Kingdom. She has a passion for travelling and has been to 40 countries to date!

Off to a fresh start, Carol is a dynamic mother of two active boys (Tipene & Nikora), is a qualified NZDA Dental Assistant, now an Orthodontic Assistant and is currently in training to become an Orthodontic Auxiliary.

Carol is always up for a challenge, a good laugh and has a flair for dance. She enjoys visiting the local markets, spontaneous road trips, content writing, party planning, quiz nights, live music, lawn bowls, netball, touch rugby and long walks near the beach.
