What are dental implants?
Dental implants are a replacement root with a crown placed on top. Implants are used to replace one or more teeth. They are also used to hold dentures in place.
Both the front and back teeth are suitable for implants. Front teeth influence your appearance, to give you a new look. Your back teeth are less important for your appearance, but their mechanical function is important. Back teeth implants are designed accordingly.
Getting a dental implant is a two-step process. The first step is the implant placement and the second step is the implant restoration.
Implant Placement
The titanium or alloy implant is surgically placed and left to fuse with the jawbone. Very few dentists have the training and experience to carry out this complicated procedure. In most cases, these dentists also carry out the second step.
Implant Restoration
The replica tooth, crown or denture is fitted on top of the fused implant. Most dentists can carry out this procedure.
